Coles Online

Today I decided to try out the Coles Online website, buying all my groceries online and having them delivered to my door... for free!! Usual delivery costs are $13.

It was fun shopping online, there were no waiting lines, no people and no buying items I didn't really need, like chocolates and cakes.

Delivery time was between 4-8pm, the delivery man was late by 15 mins, not that I'm complaining. He was a bit rough, threw down the bags which contained glass bottles and my delish blueberries.. which unfortunately spilt everywhere :( No worries though, he was probably in a hurry to finish his other deliveries.

Anyway we received everything we ordered and more........ for some strange reason we received 2 large jars of "You'll love Coles" spiced gherkins and a block of vintage cheese! I love cheese and gherkin sandwiches and Will was asking for some cheese the other day!! Must have been our lucky delivery :)

Would I order from Coles again, probably.... it was good not having to carry 10kgs of rice upstairs! But I think I still like browsing........

Kevin 747

Our prime minister loves building up those frequent flyer points! Overseas again! This time to New York, apparently he will be representing Oz at a UN meeting. I thought that's what the Foreign Affairs minister did....oh that's right all of Dudd MPs are useless and inexperienced.

Kevin 747 we all know the real reason you're back in New York, try not to get drunk this time whilst visiting Scores!

Bachelor Girl and Poetry

The song I was referring to in my previous post was "Drowning not waving" by Australian band Bachelor Girl. I've had a read through of the song lyrics, it's a pop song and obviously not nearly as powerful as the simple yet disturbing poem by Stevie Smith.

It's amazing how powerful words can be. Sometimes the stringing together of the simplest words can bring you unlimited joy, cut your heart like a knife or haunt you forever.

I used to be an avid reader of poetry, I don't know why I stopped. Perhaps too many life tasks needed to be completed and I had forgotten how to relax, I think I will start reading poetry again! Any recommendations?

Toast

I walked to my nearest polling booth today to vote for the fine people I wanted to be Mayor and council members. The sad truth is, I don't care who the Mayor is or will be, I didn't even know who I was voting for. Why is this sad? It's sad to me because at that moment I didn't appreciate the democratic society I lived in which others around the world fought for. I just thought it was a hassle for me to get dressed, walk uphill in the heat, stand behind a coughing man and wait to vote for my Council.

I stood in that queue, in the 28 degree heat with my neighbours for almost an hour thinking about life, the events of the past 2 weeks, my baby, the Uniting church, pre-school, my thirst, the heat and listened to the conversations of the very loud group of people behind me.

I walked slowly back home. I hadn't been completely alone in a long time. I appreciated the solitary walk. I thought about a lot and I prayed to God for strength to overcome the heaviness of my heart and thanked Him for the new joy he has brought to my life and the simple joys I had taken for granted.

And I praised Him for being an Almighty God. Who else can make the Spring freesias smell so sweet and the heat smell like the coming of Summer? Who else can make the sun rays warm your face like a piece of toast?

 I love this picture.

Song Lyrics and Drowning.

Back when I was in high school I used to feel as though some songs were written just for me. Not anymore.

However for a long time I've really liked one line in a song I heard many years ago, it went like this... "I'm drowning not waving".

I have no idea who sung the song, what it's called or what it's about but I still remember that line. I feel like that sometimes, like I'm drowning but I've been mistaken for waving.

I have experienced near drowning before, it was at Wet n Wild, Queensland in the wave pool. The sad thing is, the waves were artificial (that is, created by a wave making machine), I could have escaped myself (it's not like I can't swim, I've attended swimming lessons every summer since I was about 9 years old) but I put up my arm and started waving to the lifeguard. He didn't come to save me, I think he thought I was mocking him. I got out safely by myself by swimming under the waves but I still remember that I'm drowning feeling.

BTW if anyone knows the song and artist please let me know.

US Open 2008

What will I remember about this years US Open? It won't be Nadal being beaten by Murray or that Andy Roddick was nowhere to be seen, it will my husband working a night shift, coming home, not sleeping, waiting until 2:10am to watch the Fed game.

What amazes me is.. my husband is willing to fight sleepiness, wait hours for a game, watch the game until roughly 4am then crawl into bed with only his boxers on. As he falls asleep, he tells me Fed won and he is cold. I ask him why he doesn't put on his PJs, he says they are in the bathroom and he can't be bothered.

Our apartment isn't very big, it would take him about 5 seconds to walk to the bathroom and another 10 seconds to put on his PJs and save himself from the cold night. But he can't be bothered, though he can be bothered to resist sleep for a tennis game.

At about 9am our baby woke up having done a giant plop plop and wanting some food, my husband usually changes her nappy and I feed her. This morning, my husband asked me nicely whether I could please change her nappy because he was so cold.

I did, because he was tired, cold and because I couldn't stop laughing. Will! Sometimes I just don't understand how his mind works.
